Most of the clothes we sell are made from organic cotton. You might wonder why that's important.
After all, you're probably not planning to eat your clothes anytime soon. (Although if you're ever forced to eat your hat,
you might as well make it an organic one).
Conventional cotton growing uses about 2% of all agricultural land worldwide. On that 2% of land it uses about 12% of all pesticides.
Some of these pesticides are toxic to other plantlife and wild animals, they leach into the ground and can contaminate soil and poison water supplies.
And they kill people. The World Health Organisation estimates that about 20000 people die from agricultural pesticide poisoning each year and another
3 million suffer side effects from exposure, including birth deformities and infertility.
The organic cotton used by our suppliers is mostly grown on small scale family farms, through schemes where farmers are helped to use crop rotations,
insect management and other techniques to grow and protect their crops naturally.
As well as this being a healthier option for farmers and their families, they're also paid a guaranteed and higher price for the organic cotton than they would be
for the conventional crop.

Arkadash is the Turkish word for friend. It's a clue to how we want to do business, respecting the rights and needs of workers and farmers, using natural resources as carefully as we can, treating our suppliers and customers well, being friendly to the planet and the people around us. Wanna be friends?
